Daily workout

Reading the survey by The Times of India which said 64 per cent Indians don't exercise and as per the demographics, India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35, it is evident that the major working class population in India never exercise. The work culture in India is getting worst year after year killing our health and personal life. I was born in one such busiest place in India, Mumbai. School children in India lack in physical health, fitness and sports. There will be thousands of articles on this. Current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is now introducing Yoga in schools, colleges and offices. It is a shame that India is the birthplace of Yoga and Meditation and Indians lack proper fitness and health(both mental and physical). India was once a land of largest vegetarian eating population but do we really eat healthy? By healthy, I mean, having all the necessary nutrients which is generally a small fraction in overcooked Indian food.

I have always been trekking and hiking. Sports which I ever enjoyed and played were Chess and Table tennis. I always made sure I walk short distances and perform 10 sun-salutations everyday. To maintain proper physique I used to cut short the proportion of any of my meals but never skipped any of them. I drink plenty of water. Gym was never my cup of tea.

When I moved to UK, I was motivated the way people dedicated atleast an hour for workout everyday. Before I moved to UK, I never knew the concept of going for a run with colleagues during breaks. I had been down in the dumps when I found that I cannot even run 2km. For a year, I was not mentally prepared for any workout as I was trying to adjust with the weather and the life in London. I started with parkruns every Saturday. Ah! I was just awful. I used to get cramps and walked more than run. People above my age group performed much better than me. But guys, to be honest, nobody really cares. Nobody is going to judge here. I was competing against my own past run records. That’s what kept me going. As my new workplace is located in WeWork building which hosts Resetldn fitness classes like Yoga for free, I make sure I attend most of it. With regular Yoga, I realised that I am flexible but I lack physical strength as I said, I was never a gym person. I have scheduled that I will be performing Yoga thrice a week, park run 5 km on Saturdays and run to office around 6 km the other days. Well, then I am suppose to hibernate on Sundays. I still don’t run like a professional runner as that was never my motive. Running makes me feel happier. With daily workout I respect my body and soul. It boosts my confidence and helps to develop a healthy posture. There are several good runs and marathons in India throughout the year now. People need a push and awareness of daily exercises. As it says 'One run can change your day but many runs can change your life'. Schedule it and give it a GO!
